PartSnap ("we", "our", "the app") is an auto parts price comparison tool. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.

1. Data We Collect

Device Identifier

We generate a random device ID (UUID) stored locally on your device. This links your saved vehicles and alerts to your device without requiring an account. We do not collect your real device IMEI, advertising ID, or hardware identifiers.

Vehicle Information

When you add vehicles to your garage, we store the year, make, model, trim, engine type, and optionally VIN. This data is associated with your device ID and used solely to filter compatible parts in search results.

Price Alerts

When you create price alerts, we store the part name, target price, current price, and search query. We check prices periodically and notify you when prices drop below your target.

Search & Click Data

We log search queries, result counts, which results you click, and your general country (detected via your device locale and the country.is geolocation API — we do not collect your precise location or IP address). This data helps us improve search quality and result ranking.

Photos for Part Identification

When you use the photo identification feature, your images are sent to third-party AI services (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google Gemini) for analysis. We do not store your photos on our servers. Photos are transmitted directly for processing and discarded after the AI response is returned. Please review the privacy policies of these AI providers for their data handling practices.

Country Detection

We detect your country using your device's locale setting and the country.is API to show relevant regional pricing. We do not collect your precise GPS location.

Crash & Performance Data

We use Sentry for crash reporting and performance monitoring. This collects device type, OS version, app version, and crash stack traces. No personally identifiable information is included in crash reports.

2. How We Use Your Data

• Filter search results for vehicle compatibility
• Monitor prices and send alert notifications
• Improve search result quality and ranking
• Show region-appropriate pricing and retailers
• Monitor app stability and fix crashes
• Generate anonymous usage statistics

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

• AI Vision Providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) — photos sent for part identification only
• Sentry — crash reports and performance data for app stability
• Retailers — when you click through to purchase, the retailer may receive referral information via affiliate links
• country.is — receives your IP address for country detection (their service does not log IPs)

4. Affiliate Links

PartSnap earns commissions when you purchase through retailer links in the app. This does not affect the price you pay. Prices shown are sourced from publicly available retailer data and may not reflect real-time pricing.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secured servers. Vehicle data and alerts are associated with your anonymous device ID. We use HTTPS for all data transmission.

6. Your Rights

You can:

• Delete your vehicles and alerts at any time through the app
• Request deletion of all your data by contacting us
• Use the app without creating an account

7. Children's Privacy

PartSnap is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as we add features. Significant changes will be communicated in the app.
